Kantorei Youth Choirs
Kantorei Youth Choirs has two levels to help your child grow, no matter their skill level.
Prelude Choir is our beginning choir for students ages 6-9. Children in Prelude Choir come to rehearsals which include activities designed to help them successfully begin their musical journey. The beginnings of correct vocal technique, ear training, reading activities, music games, dancing, and instruments are part of our weekly rehearsals. Prelude Choir performs in conjunction with Kantorei in concert settings.
This more advanced performing ensemble is for students ages 13 and up. Membership in this level is by audition or voice hearing. These singers are the leaders and role models for all Kantorei singers. Their love of singing is expressed by their commitment to the choir and to each other.
This choir sings a wide range of music. In addition to sacred music of the masters (works selected on musical artistry and not religious persuasion), Kantorei performs an exciting array of secular selections including folk songs, spirituals, show tunes, and patriotic, pop, and jazz music. Since much of the music is sung in at least four vocal parts with varying levels of complexity and occasionally in a foreign language, certain skills are necessary for acceptance.
Prelude Choir: Thursday, 4:30-5:30 pm
Kantorei Choir: Tuesdays, 4:30-6:30 pm
All rehearsals are held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church 3300 Rural St, Rockford, IL.
If you are interested in joining Kantorei for the first time, come to a rehearsal for free – listen, observe, and join as comfortable. For more information, contact Artistic Director James Marck at email@example.com or call 815.246.2202.
The Mentor Choir was formed in 2018 to support students in their development as citizens and musicians. Mentors regularly attend rehearsals, sing alongside the students, lead sectionals, and form meaningful relationships. Current members include Margo Stedman, Brian Doering, and David Pearson.
